Hello Readers,
To begin, I am a native Californian. I was born in Northern California on August 26th. I moved to southern California when I was young and have been living here ever since. Before working as a librarian for Torrey Hills, I was busy raising my two daughters, Kelly and Katie. Both of my girls were students at Torrey Hills Elementary and now one is attending San Diego State University, and the other attending Mira Costa College. In my past, I have worked in the biotech industry and have worked for a large communications firm.
I have always had a knack working with kids. In high school I worked as an assistant for several different preschools. As a teenager, I always had babysitting jobs. ( I was known as "Mary Poppins" in my neighborhood ) I always carried a dufflebag full of crafts such as, colorbooks, crayons, glue, sequins and of course....STORY BOOKS!!!! I carried my passion for caring and teaching kids through to my adult years, but a fork in the road took me down a different career path.
When my daughters became of elementary school age, my calling came back to me. I became a parent volunteer and was forever at Torrey Hills school volunteering and helping in classrooms, in Steam+ classrooms, PTA programs, weeding and planting in the school gardens, helping at lunch for noon duty. I could not get enough of being around the students and staff so when I heard that the librarian was leaving, I knew it was meant to be and here I am today, thirteen years later!
As librarian at Torrey Hills, I truly feel this job is my passion. I absolutely love working with the students and introducing them to the world of books. My number one goal is to get kids to love to read! I am fortunate that I get to see all the students, grades K-6. I get to watch the students grow through the years in this position. It is rewarding to watch a student grow socially, mentally, physically, academically. Nothing is more satisfying than helping a child who is learning to read, or helping a child who is a reluctant reader learn to love books.
I love doing my absolute best to support the teachers at Torrey Hills. The staff at this school is AMAZING. It is a pleasure to be able to assist this team with the necessary extra curricular teaching material they need from the library and internet. I feel that our library is the main hub for 21 century learners. I look forward to what the future may bring to our Torrey Hills library to enhance the learning experience for our students.
